Black Celebrities Performing at Trump’s Inauguration: Is Money Your God?
How Far Will You Go for a Check?
Y'all, we need to have a real conversation because some folks out here have me squinting my eyes and clutching my pearls. Black celebrities performing at President-Elect Trump’s inauguration? Chile, make it make sense. Let’s talk about morals, integrity, and what it says when you accept that kind of stage.
First, let’s set the stage (pun intended). Trump’s policies and rhetoric have been nothing short of harmful to the Black community. Remember when his team pushed that hateful narrative about Haitian immigrants eating pets—cats and dogs? The blatant dehumanization and dangerous rhetoric is just another example of the harm he’s caused. From calling Black Lives Matter a “terrorist organization” to his administration’s relentless efforts to dismantle policies that support racial equity, his track record speaks loud and clear—and it’s screaming, “I don’t care about y’all!” So why in the world would anyone from our community be okay with co-signing his presidency by performing at his inauguration?
This isn’t about political differences, baby. This is about survival. Trump has spent years targeting the very communities he now wants to borrow clout from. And let’s be real, his invitation to Black celebrities isn’t about celebrating their artistry—it’s about giving his presidency a sprinkle of legitimacy. He’s asking for your presence so he can say, “See? Even they’re on my side.”
But what does it mean when you accept that invitation? It means you’re okay turning a blind eye to the harm he’s done—and plans to keep doing. It means you’re willing to cash a check, no matter the cost to your community. And honey, the cost is steep.
